I was doing PR for the Henry Mancini Institute in June 2006 to publicize their big 10th Anniversary Concert and Gala Celebration with Tony Bennett, Julie Andrews and more at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood. Dave Koz, a morning DJ on the LA Jazz station, The Wave, hosted the event, and he is also a famous and accomplised saxophonist. PR people live their lives depending on emails and calls from people to give them the green light to give the press information...we were waiting from Tony's publicist to give us the go ahead on something and one morning I got an email from a guy named Mark Graham about the Tony situation and how his client, Dave Koz, would be willing to help out in any way that they could, and could we please also set up a booth plugging on of Dave's events at the show? Mark Graham. Mark Graham. I knew that name. So I emailed him to see if he was who I thought he was and turns out my dad, Howard, used to live on his mom Lindy's couch in Marin in the early 70's. My dad made me have coffee with him when I first moved to LA in 2002 to "network" as he was a music manager, and he took me out for coffee and we chit chatted about what I wanted to do with my life, and at 22, I had NO idea, so that didn't get me too far. Then I never saw him again. 4 years later, still haven't, but at least I have his email address and found out that his kid was about to start Kindergarten.
