Specific Things

The day of her 16th birthday my older sister got her license with a perfect score on the driving test. The next day, April 11th 1992 we were driving in a caravan with our father and stepmom to pick up food for the annual Kiwanis fundraiser. They had a BBQ booth at the local Apple Blossom fair and we were going to the bakery to pick up rolls. There were so many bags of rolls my Dad thought there should be two cars to carry them so my sister and I went along in her car. We got to the bakery and loaded both backseats up with rolls. We started to make our way home, our Dad in front and us behind. My sister pulled up to a stop sign where we had to make a left turn. She looked left, looked right, and without looking left again turned. We heard a huge crash and our car was spun around 180 degrees. A woman driving with her young daughter had hit the rear passenger door of the car opening it up and scattering rolls all over the road. My sister was very upset and got out and was talking to the woman. I picked up rolls from the road and put them back in the bags. We moved the car to the side of the road and waited for our dad and Stepmom to notice we were not behind them and come back. My sister was crying and saying, “Dad’s going to kill me” which was not true as he is not the type to get angry about that sort of thing. Eventually they drove up and I watched them stop their car and not knowing we were ok run up to the scene of the accident. It was weird to see the looks on their faces. My sister was afraid to make lefts for years after.
